Museum Assignment

A while ago my class went to a near by art Museum to look at sculptures and busts to help prepare us to make our own bust. The assignments were to look at the shadows, movement, lines and balance of 4 different sculptures at the museum. These are 3 of the drawings I did:

 

Scanography

This assignment was to use a scanner to compose a image like you would when using a camera. So I took some fake flowers, my camera, some paperclips and other stuff and composed this image:

Calligraphy

One of our first assignments was to do calligraphy, each letter multiple times across a page. This was my attempt at the assignment:

Then what we had to do with what we learned from doing the calligraphy is make our own type of letter that had a theme that could be done through the whole alphabet:

My Altered Book

So we're going through our final exams now in Art 3, and one of our assignments that we've had the whole semester is our Altered books. It's pretty much where you take a book and do your art in it. I picked a book called "Welcome to My Studio" by Helen Van Wyk. I was drawn to the book because it teaches you how to paint better and how to pay attention to light and shadows in your painting, a weakness of mine in my opinion. I can't say I've gotten any better at painting since getting this book (probably cause I read all of one paragraph in the whole thing...), but I'm sure it was very informative. But anyway...here are some of the artistic things I've done with my altered book!

Octopus thingy

I drew this with crappy markers my mom bought me, it was a drawing of a picture I made in photoshop for a chalk fest that was going on a while ago. Complicated enough?

 

I shall name this poop painting, and it shall be my poop painting. (Don't worry, its just acrylic paint!)

Random sharpie sketches, started out as body formation planning. I was going to do a big sculpture out of wire, but I don't have money for that type of stuffs.

Hands of Time

In Katherine C.S. Borck’s piece The Hands of Time she shows the never ending cycle of life itself. Integrated into this cycle is life, love, and death; things that we all experience as humans no matter when or where we were born and raised. The hands represent not only time, but relationships between people. Each of the hands have certain words incorporated into them having to do with one of the three themes:  Love, Life, and Death. The relationship between the two hands is best shown with the theme of Love, where the words constantly represent a feeling of regret and dismay towards the relationship with each other. The appearance of a clock brings forth the ultimate theme of Time, for time is what the cycle of life continues within.
